Welcome
Welcome, athletic directors! Your parish has appointed you to guide your athletic program toward excellence according to the standards governed by CYO. Each participant's experience must embrace the philosophy, the mission and the Catholic values defined by the program. Athletic directors define their structure at the parish by the adoption and distribution of their parish team rules.
Your selection and recruitment of volunteer coaches, registrars and commissioners for your program is crucial to the success of the entire program. Upon appointment, coaches must become teachers of the game grounded in their Catholic faith.
If newly appointed, every athletic director and his/her staff are recommended to arrange an orientation with the CYO Athletic Staff to receive additional educational information and resources for their program. There are two athletic director meetings each year to discuss issues, exchange ideas and share information.
Athletic directors touch the life of every child in their program. We are blessed in your generosity of your time, energy and expertise. Many times over, thank you.

Athlete of Character Award
CYO Athletics strives to provide young people the opportunity to experience spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional growth through participation in a variety of sports. When done with effective leadership, no other learning experience allows young people to build character and acquire information about themselves and others. Just as athletics directors, commissioners, coaches and parents serve as role models for our children, so too, do our children serve as witness to others.
To recognize student athletes who consistently demonstrate the Catholic values of spirituality, dignity, inclusiveness, and service, we award one male and one female student-athlete from each parish the Athlete of Character Award.
To receive this most distinguished award, the recipient must:- Be either a 7th or 8th grade student.
- Be either a student at the parish school or a member of the parish.
- Have participated in at least one CYO-sponsored sport for a minimum of 2 years.
- Must exhibit strong leadership and character skills in athletics, in the classroom and in the parish community.
- Must exhibit outstanding sportsmanship toward game opponents and officials.
- Must be a "team player."
- Must be someone who serves as a strong role model for younger CYO participants at his/her parish because of their actions both on and off the field (court).
- Must have worked to develop his/her potential in academics and athletics.
- Must demonstrate strong Catholic Values and Christ-like behavior.
Due to the integrity of the award, recipients MUST meet the above criteria. If candidates do not meet the above criteria, NO AWARD should be given.
