Youth Ministers’ Gatherings

Youth Ministers’ Gatherings are held monthly, throughout the year. This is an opportunity for those who minister to youth in any capacity to come together for faith and fellowship, and to share ideas and concerns about their ministry. Typically, we have a speaker at each gathering to inform us about resources available in the diocese or other vital information. All Youth Ministers’ Gatherings are held at Akron CYO, 812 Biruta Street.

Avenues Youth Ministry Specialization

This is a series of courses for those interested in ministry with youth, including Coordinators of Youth Ministry, Directors of Religious Education, Youth Ministry Volunteers, High School PSR Catechists, High School Teachers, Priests and Deacons, and Parish Leadership Teams.

The purpose of the workshops is to provide quality training based on the US Bishops’ competency standards around the essential knowledge and skills for youth ministers, as recommended by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry. Classes focus on Renewing the Vision, the national document approved by the Bishops on Youth Ministry, and provide excellent presenters with an opportunity for dialogue and discussion. Program elements include: Foundations, Components and Issues.

Avenues Workshops also offer the opportunity to network and share experiences with fellow Youth Ministers on the parish and diocesan level. Those completing coursework receive a Youth Ministry Specialization. Avenues is also part of the joint certification training program in collaboration with the Pastoral Ministry Office and the Office of Catechetical Services.

The scheduling and facilitation of the workshops are a collaborative endeavor between Akron and Cleveland CYO.

Adult Volunteer Training, Consultation and Support

Training is available for adults interested in youth ministry and adolescents. Custom workshops can be developed to meet the needs of your parish and adult volunteers. The CYO Youth Ministry Team is available by appointment to consult with your parish team.

Team Driven Youth Ministry Pilot Program (TDYM)

Encourages collaboration and outreach among 46 parishes in the southern region of the Diocese of Cleveland. The team consists of three Youth Ministers from different parishes or areas of the southern region and a Young Adult Minister who works in conjunction with the Director of Youth Ministry. TDYM provides support for parish Youth Ministry Programs, Youth Ministers, and are active in CYO programming. For more information, please contact any member of the CYO Youth Ministry Team.
